Zumba for CAARE Event, Saturday May 19, 5:30-8pm!

Zumba Fitness will be coming to CAARE on Saturday, May 19th to offer large group classes from 6-8pm. Along with a fantastic set of instructors, the event will offer a $1 raffle for an iPod and Zumba accessories! The price of attendance is $10 in advance or $15 at the door, and proceeds will go towards continuing to make all the various services at CAARE possible.

IBM Donates a Young Explorer Kidsmart Machine

CAARE now features an engaging new computer station just for kids! Called the Young Explorer Kidsmart Machine, the equipment contains fun and interactive lessons in math, science, and language. Check out the video below!

MLK Day of Service 1/16/2011 + Jeff Majors!

Join us this Monday on Martin Luther King Day, 1/16, from 10am – 3pm for a Day of Service at CAARE! The event will feature a return performance by Jeff Majors, and opportunities to volunteer with the completion of the 15 bed Veteran’s Housing dormitory, as well as with upholstering furniture, decorating, and painting tasks for the Substance Abuse Clubhouse. “Absolutely Positive” Film Premiere – Wed 1/25, Sun 1/29 @ Club 313

Second Glance Productions has created a dramatic short film called “Absolutely Positive”, written and directed by Anthony L. Williams. It follows four characters, all from different walks of life, as they get tested for HIV. It shows the events of why they decide to go get tested, the thoughts that run through their minds as they wait for their results, and how they decide to live their lives after finding out their results. This truthful, original screenplay is being filmed here in the Raleigh area.

The two premiere showings will be at Club 313 (313 W. Hargett St., downtown Raleigh) on two days:

Wednesday, January 25, 2012: Doors open 8pm, Event begins 9pm, $5 cash only

Sunday, January 29, 2012: Doors open 5pm, Event begins 6pm, $5 cash only

Heart of Carolina Food Drive!

Thanks so much to everyone who donated canned food during the Heart of Carolina Food Drive! ABC11 and the Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina partnered with CAARE to collect a truck full of much-needed food for the food pantry. CAARE is also having a Christmas Celebration on December 23 from 12-3pm, and much of the donated food along with clothing and toys will be given out to people in the community who come to the event. Day of Service – 11/11/11 Veteran’s Day Work on 15 bed Dormitory Housing

This Veteran’s Day (11/11/11) CAARE will be having a Day of Service to work on the construction of the 15 bed on-site dormitory housing project, the culmination of month’s worth of hard work by many wonderful people. Participating would be a great way to honor the veterans right here in our community – we hope to see you share in this effort, and this celebration of their service!

2008 Bryan Fellow Crystal Yarborough and the Coffee Shop Project

UNC Master of Social Work student Crystal Yarborough, in 2008, chose to do a public service project with CAARE that would engage participants in a five week Job Readiness Group Series, and also create a social space that could facilitate networking and serve as a place of community. The result was the beautiful Coffee Shop on the downstairs level of CAARE, where clients and visitors can hang out with each other or with a book off the shelf while relaxing on the wicker patio furniture. Because of people like Crystal who contribute their skills and passion to the growing puzzle that is CAARE, we are able to serve more people better every day.
